The Fall Semester of 4th Year and Winter Break
Lets take some time to reflect on the past few months while we slowly prepare for match (finding out where Tiffany and I will end up for Residency) and reminisce on some of the good times that passed us by!
Just to catch everyone up, in the last installment back in august I spent time at the Brooke Army Medical Center Emergency Medicine program in San Antonio, TX and enjoyed time with the friends I had made along the road who were also U.S. Air Force medical students. At the conclusion of this I was on the way home to Mobile, AL.
September 2022
After making my back to Mobile, AL I had a nice two week rotation in Anesthesiology where I got to appreciate the intricacies of pre-op and get some practice with intubating. I learned some cool things and reviewed some skills that would come in handy during my next audition. After my two-week anesthesia rotation I got to spend a week with my fiancée in Louisville, KY. We explored the area, enjoyed many wonderful meals, and had just so much fun with eachother after not having seen one another in some time since we had both been on the road doing audition rotations at multiple residency programs.
Then it was time for my rotation at the University of Kentucky’s Emergency Medicine program. From about the middle of September to the middle of October I spent time in Lexington, KY working in the Emergency Room and taking in the area.
The end of this month also saw the beginning of interview season for residencies and once the ERAS application opened up for programs to review it was off to the races!
October 2022
October began with continued time in the ER and enjoying the sites in Lexington, KY until it was time to head back to Mobile, AL for a quick pit stop before my bachelor party! I decided on heading back to AZ to spend time with family and friends since I had the time in my schedule and had so much fun.
At the end of my time in AZ I was also able to head to Cincinnati, OH to spend more time with my fiancée while she was on the road and again get out and explore.
Finally, it was time to head back to Mobile, AL for a Psychiatry rotation which was with a preceptor that I had previously spent time with.
November 2022
November again continued with my Psychiatry rotation, continued residency interviews and Tiffany returning to Mobile, AL after many months away! Once Tiffany got back into town it was time for Thanksgiving which we spent in St. Petersburg, FL with Tiffany’s family there as well as some much-needed hands on wedding planning and our wedding cake tasting!
December 2022
After Thanksgiving it was time for my Radiology rotation where I picked up some intricacies with respect to imagining. ALSO, we found out the results of the military match. I was selected to continue my path towards Emergency Medicine via a civilian deferment which means that I would continue to compete for a civilian residency program for additional training AND that Tiffany and I could couples match together! After this wonderful news we began our winter break which was broken into three segments. Time in AZ for Christmas, my make up rotation and New Years, and finally Tiffany and I’s wedding!
Winter Break in AZ and New Years Eve
From the moment we arrived we hit the ground running to see family and friends. We also began to prep for our wedding shower which was an event for those guests who would not be able to make it to the wedding in Florida. We had a fantastic time catering to everyone and seeing all of our family and friends!
After the shower we had some time to relax with my family for the Christmas holiday prior to us having to go back.
Once I got back to Mobile, AL I had the opportunity to make-up my Ophthalmology rotation which was a really fun time learning more about the eye and then we got to celebrate the New Year with our friends in Mobile, AL!
Finally, it was time for the week of the wedding! Stay tuned as I put together the blog for the wedding and we wait for our wedding photos to come back that will have the full details about the wonderful wedding that Tiffany and I had and all the people who came out to celebrate us!
P.S. For some bonus content here for the interim here is what I have been listening to this past year!
