About Me

Jonathan (“Jon”) Desimone was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, the son of an optometrist and an engineer. From an early age, he developed both a curiosity for how systems work and a desire to care for others—interests that would ultimately converge in Emergency Medicine.

He attended Pennsylvania State University, where he studied Mechanical Engineering, participated in AFROTC, and worked as an EMT. It was in the back of an ambulance, responding to emergencies and caring for patients in uncontrolled environments, that he first experienced the pace, responsibility, and teamwork that define emergency care. This experience solidified his desire to become a physician.

After graduating in 2016, Jon commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Los Angeles Air Force Base as a developmental engineer within the Space and Missile Systems Center. There, he worked in the Military Satellite Communications directorate supporting national defense missions, including next-generation Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications systems. In this role, he led multidisciplinary teams and managed high-stakes projects requiring risk assessment, rapid decision-making, and systems-level thinking—skills that would later prove directly applicable to resuscitation medicine and leadership in crisis environments.

Despite professional success in engineering, Jon felt called back to patient care. With support from the Air Force through the Health Professions Scholarship Program, he entered medical school at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2019. Throughout medical school, his interests consistently centered on acute care, trauma, and critical illness.

In 2023, Jon matched into Emergency Medicine at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio. During residency, he developed a strong focus on trauma resuscitation, airway management, critical care, and prehospital medicine. He was selected to serve as a flight physician, providing rotor-wing critical care transport and leading resuscitations in austere, prehospital environments. He also practices independently as a locum tenens emergency physician and moonlights in the medical ICU, further refining his management of high-acuity patients, ventilators, and vasoactive medications.

Jon’s path—from EMT, to Air Force officer, to emergency physician—has shaped how he approaches medicine: calm under pressure, team-oriented, systems-focused, and comfortable making critical decisions when seconds matter.

Upon completion of residency, Jon will return to active duty as a physician in the United States Air Force, where he looks forward to serving as an Emergency Medicine physician caring for service members and their families, and continuing his work in operational, austere, and critical care environments.

Outside of medicine, Jon enjoys photography and travel, pursuits that reflect his curiosity about the world and the people in it.
