Wow, does it feel good to be done with the 1st year of medical school! All the grinding, long nights, zoom sessions, and Anki cards… But taking a second to look back at the last semester and everything that happened until now brings back some good memories. Check out my “Beginning of 2nd Semester” and my “End of 1st Semester and Winter Break Reflection” posts for some nostalgia. Otherwise, let me recap some of the events that have taken place since my last blog.
After we, Tiffany and I, got back from our spring break camping trip, we finished up MSK and celebrated with some take-out from the Hacienda Azul Mexican Grill & Bar , one of our favorite places to eat here in Dothan. We transitioned to the Heme Lymph system which really rocked us. It’s not so much that we didn’t do well, it’s just coming from the MSK system the level of “difficulty” really was an upstep. I would like to say that we had a fun time during it… but we didn’t. haha Just normal pandemic life. Study, eat, walking outside for exercise, and sleep. At the end of Heme Lymph, we planned a photoshoot based around the American Gothic work of art by Grant Wood. We figured that look would reflect the feeling of being self-quarantined during this pandemic.
Not too long after we got to celebrate some birthdays as we transitioned to the Dermatology system! First was one of our good friends, then Tiffany and finally me! Super great time celebrating and getting everyone together in person and via zoom. Great mix-up from the day to day quarantine distance learning medical school paradigm.
As we finished Dermatology as well as the Primary clinical skills; Osteopathic Principals and Practice; and Foundations of Medicine course that we were in we could finally say that we were 2nd-year medical school students! Not to mention, I found out I was selected to be a Primary clinical skills TA for the incoming 1st years as well which I was tremendously thrilled about!
Tiffany and I decided to end the year by going on a local adventure to Enterprise, AL. Somewhere that was close enough that would allow us to be somewhat safe during this pandemic. Wonderful time checking out the small town and we got some Mellow Mushroom Pizza which was wonderful, and vegan for Tiffany! Check out some of the pics from our adventure at the link below!
With that, it was time for me to head home to AZ to see some family and take some much-needed rest and relaxation before kicking it into gear again for 2nd year of medical school. All I can say is I hope you all stay safe during this difficult time! Stay tuned as I do my best to keep you posted!
